Salamanca is famous for the great Market held the every Saturday morning and early afternoon. There is a uniquqe mix of stalls, food, history, hats, more food, entertainment (amazing bagpipes!) ... you get the idea.
People forget that Salamanca Place is also fantastic for a little taste of some of the oldest buildings in Tassie. There are many stores, galleries, cafes and restaurants along the beautiful strip. Night and day, Salamanca is vibrant, friendly and fun.
Apart from the cafes and restaurants, there are a few bars alont the strip. Knopwoods is a definite favorite, and Irish Murphy's has live music most nights, or relax in the chic loft of Barcelona.
Behind Salamanca Place is a little suburb called Battery Point. This is the original sailors housing inHobart, which makes it the oldest residential area. It is well worth a jaunt up Kelly Steps and a wander around Battery Point with your camera. |
