Metro The only way is to arrive late, stay the night, see Port Arthur in the morning, and return the next afternoon.

Port Arthur is a fantastic day trip. We highly recomend a visit, and it is really one of those 'must see' destinations in Tasmania. There are many things to do there, and you could spend anything from 2 to 5 hours easily.

A guided bus tour will show you everything you want to see, but hiring a car is an option you might want to explore. The 'Mega Day Tour' by Adventure Island Tours is fantastic at around $100, and is one of a several options for guided tours.

Hiring a car is also an excellent option for you to think about. A guided tour will cost around $100, and a hire car will cost around $30 plus insurance and fuel. The site entrance fee of less than $30 includes a walking guided tour and boat trip around the harbor.

Personally, I would recommend hiring a car and driving to Port Arthur in the early morning, leaving Hobart around 7.30am. You can do the walking guided tour at 9.30am, the boat cruise at 11.30am, then enjoy the warmest part of the day wandering around civic row and the rest of the beautiful area. You can leave in the early afternoon and visit Devils Kitchen, Tasmans Arch and the rest, and still be back in Hobart in time for a leisurely cruise up Mount Wellington for those spectacular sights.
